That’s how I got this idea of opening this for trash utensil reviews. Among many things, one of the most important things for removing your garbage is the trash bin and the trash bag  you are using.

Very few things can spoil your day like when your trash bag gets torn up while you’re taking out the trash. And trust me, it’s very easy to get confused as to which one is the correct choice for you. Reason why you need both trash bag and trash bin or can?

If you think about the best way to deal with your trash, it’s always to bag it first. Sure, you can keep it in a trash can and then throw it out later. But trust me when I say that it’s a lot better to throw out the bag full of trash instead of having to toss the trash out from the trash can or bin.

If you keep your trash in the trash can, you have the added stress of cleaning it every other day. Not only does it cause the trash can to smell bad, but it also warrants regular cleaning. That’s even more difficult to do if you think about what has been in there.
So basically, it’s one of those situations where you need both. You need good trash bags to go with your trash can or trash bin and vice-versa.

Which trash bags are the correct fit for you? / How to find best trash bag?

In this age of information overload, it’s very easy to get perplexed about every single thing you use in your everyday life. In order to make your lives a little easier, here’s a shortcut to which trash bags are good for you.

♦ Size: The first point you need to consider while buying your trash bags is the size of the trash can that it’s going into. If it’s a little bigger than the can, it will crumple up. A bigger bag means it’s going to cost more, so if you’re buying a box, it’s going to eventually add up.

♦ Material: The next thing is to know what kind of bags you are looking for. You have your usual plastic bags that are good for holding trash and then for throwing it out into the curb. Then there’s the polyethylene bags which are stronger than the plastic bags we use. They can hold the heavier trash but the problem with them is they’re not so environmentally-friendly.

♦ Odor: Another subject that might be important to you, is if the trash bags are scented or not. Some people are allergic to the smell, so for them I would recommend the unscented bags. And for people who are looking for scented bags, there’s a very good selection of trash bags with very subtle scents as well. So, it’s really up to you as to what you’re looking for. If it’s going to be heavy duty, smell-wise, it’s better to go with the scented ones.

♦ Durability: This is another subject that needs to be taken into consideration. If it’s for kitchen trash, you can go with the plastic trash bags. However, if you’re looking to carry the heavier loads, it’s better to go with the low-density trash bags that are made of Chlorosulfonated Polyethylene. Even if you carry heavier loads, it’s going to last you longer than the plastic bags.

I have done research on a few trash products that can be considered best in the market. Through that research, I have come up with a list. And now that you know which kind of trash bags are good for you, you can decide which one fits you best based on the characteristics of each of the bags described below.

Amazon Basics Tall Kitchen Drawstring Trash bag

To start off, I am going to go with the Amazon Basics Tall Kitchen Drawstring Bags. Let’s just start with the packaging. Doesn’t matter how you are getting it, whether it’s online or from a retail outlet. It’s going to come in a compact box and that means that it takes up very little space in your cabinet. If you’re buying the 13-gallon ones, you’re going to get 120 trash bags. According to the Panhandle Dumpsters LLC, the average American household goes through around 100 trash bags a year which means if you buy a box, you will be good for a year.

Now let’s talk about the performance of these trash bags. If you’re going to put them in a bin, I have found it to be the easiest to do so. They’re sturdy, which makes them easily fit into the bin.

Now once you put stuff into the trash, unless you’re putting in something with a sharp edge, it’s very unlikely that there will be a leak or break. And the drawstrings of course, make it easy to carry them outside. However, you can’t really stuff them as much as you like because they’re not the most flexible trash bags in the market.

Apart from that, if there’s something particularly icky you are putting in the bag, please make sure to tie up the opening with the drawstrings because they’re unscented. Now, if you take out the not-so-stretchy and unscented attribute of these bags, they still provide a great value for money.

Glad ForceFlex Protection Series Trash Bags

The Glad ForceFlex protection series bags have probably some of the most desired features that aren’t present in some of the other ones in the market. The larger box contains 110 bags. The flexibility of these bags is through the roof. If you’re someone who likes to get the most use out of your trash bags before you have to throw them out, this is the one for you. You can push it to the actual limit but you can be confident that they won’t break.

Another feature about this one is the scent. It has a clear, subtle and fresh scent that can cover up the ickier smells you have to deal with. Yes, I am talking about poop. If you want to throw away a “used” diaper, you can simply throw it into the trash bag and forget about it. The scent of the bag itself is good enough to cover up the smell. Same goes for any perishables that’s past its expiration date.

This bag is sturdy as well. Sometimes when you toss a trash bag into the garbage can, it breaks. But you don’t have to worry about that with Glad ForceFlex bags. It’s not too much of a big deal, but if it does break inside the can, you will have to deal with the smell of trash on your curb. So overall, we weren’t able to find any negative attributes to these bags.

Hefty Ultra Strong Tall Kitchen Trash bags

The Hefty Ultra Strong trash bags are known for their strength and sturdiness. You can buy a box which will contain 80 bags. They usually come with two scents; One is lavender oil flavored and the other one is a Sweet Vanilla flavor. I would say I prefer the lavender flavored one better. And with these scented bags, it can cover up the bad trash smell for days. Because of this characteristic, some people actually prefer Hefty scented bags over the Glad ForceFlex ones. They can also be sealed off better than the other trash bags.

They also have great capacity to hold in a decent amount of weight. Those who have to carry their clothes to the laundry, they are more likely to prefer these Hefty bags because of their ability to carry weight. The material used to make these bags are Chlorosulfonated Polyethylene, which is one of the prime reasons why they can carry weight.

However, you cannot put stuff like hangers or stuff with thin edges inside the bags or they might tear through the bag. Another problem you might face is right after taking the bag out of the box. The sides are usually stuck together and it can be a drag to separate them. Nonetheless, I wouldn’t say it’s a major issue.

Rubbermaid Spa Works Vanity Wastebasket / Trash Bin

Now let’s move away from trash bags a little bit and talk about these Vanity wastebaskets by Rubbermaid. Alongside some of Rubbermaid’s other great inventions, this particular segment of wastebaskets is one of my favorites. One of the reasons behind that is the way they look. The design of this product has been really stylish. They are grayish in color but if you want to be really specific, the actual color is Gunmetal Blue.

Let’s go over to the performance of these baskets. They’re open-top, so you basically just stuff into the basket as needed. They are made of plastic, but even so, they’re amazingly sturdy for their size. The capacity of these baskets are around 2.25 gallons, so they’re not the biggest. However, they are capable of handling a decent amount of trash without having it fall over. You can use them in your bedroom, bathroom, office and even in a dorm room. That’s the thing about the style and design, it will not look weird or anything in an office space. One of the other reasons for that, apart from the great design, is because of how compact they are. They can fit in pretty much anywhere.

I know I already covered the sturdiness of these baskets, but trust me when I say that under normal circumstances, they are very unlikely to break any time soon. I have seen instances with other trash baskets where they break within a couple months. Especially with the ones you get at the dollar store. They are also very easy to empty out and clean. And if you clean up your trash on a regular basis, these wastebaskets can be really durable.

Amazon Basics Smudge Resistant Small Rectangular Trash Can

I got a thing for things that look good. And once again, I got to go with the style and design of this product. This smudge resistant product from Amazon Basics is causing quite a stir in the market. It absolutely does justice to its name and claim of being smudge resistant. It’s made of stainless steel so it’s naturally of nickel color. Its glossy, its shiny, and if you have just moved into a new apartment, it will go perfectly well in your kitchen with your shiny new dishwasher and refrigerator.

Apart from all the glamor it has on the exterior, the trash can have a plastic container in which you can put your trash bag. Basically, how it works is you press on the foot pedal; it opens the lid up at which point you throw your garbage in. It stays open until you’re done putting your trash in, or if you are changing the bag or whatever. The thing that classes it up though, is the quiet soft-close lid. There’s also a carrying handle on the top-rear end of the trash can that makes it easy to move.

These trash cans can also be cleaned very easily. It takes barely any effort to keep it clean due its smudge resistant trait. Very good for your kitchen or your office space, it’s very compact so it will fit right in.

It comes in 3 sizes, 2.6-gallon, 5.3-gallon and 10.5-gallon. The most popular one though is the 5.3-gallon one. One of the things you might have trouble with is getting trash bags for the bin that actually fit. And usually if they’re not of the appropriate size, the trash bags, no matter how sturdy they are, don’t fit properly and just get crumpled up. But other than this, we didn’t really find any other flaws with the product. All in all, it’s a good purchase, and if you go through the positives and the negative, you will know if it’s a good fit for your household.
